Facilitating a Focus Group Discussion with BMTC Bus Drivers and Conductors

Street Matrix facilitated a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) for ITDP India in collaboration with the Association of State Road Transport Undertakings (ASRTU) and BMTC. The discussion engaged BMTC’s women bus drivers and conductors to understand their workplace experiences, challenges, and perspectives.

The FGD aimed to gather insights into the daily realities faced by women in public transport operations, focusing on:

✔ Workplace Challenges – Identifying barriers related to infrastructure, safety, and operational policies.

✔ Gender Inclusion – Exploring strategies to create a more supportive and equitable work environment.

✔ Technology Transition – Understanding challenges in adopting digital ticketing, electric buses, and automated systems.

✔ Operational Efficiency – Assessing ways to improve service delivery while ensuring a comfortable and secure work setting for women staff.

The discussion provided actionable recommendations for enhancing gender inclusivity in Bengaluru’s public transport sector and improving working conditions for women in BMTC.
